A Clear Retro-Reflective SMART Powder Coating which is Waterproof and Scratch resistant.
Part of the New STARGLOW CUSTOM FX range. Reflective powders are a new generation of SMART powder coatings, ideally suited to personalising / customising of trainers, sneakers, shoes jackets, leather-wear and garments etc.
Reflective powder acts as a light-reflective surface which, from a distance will shine brightly under the light from a camera-flash, torch beam (flashlight) or car headlight etc.

Instructions
How to use Reflective Powders.
These powders are intended to bonding to suitable surfaces to produce a retro-reflective effect.
Whilst STARGLOW CUSTOM FX powders / powder bond should work on most non-porous / primed surfaces such as glass, metal, wood, plastic, finished leather as well as most suitable fabrics.
Always test a discreet area to ensure the surface and powder bond are compatible.
- Prepare the surface to be coated by cleaning to remove all traces of dust, dirt, grease, oils and wax.
- Apply a THIN and EVEN coating of STARGLOW Powder Bond to the surface.
- Whilst the Powder Bond is still wet, dust-coat with Reflective powder until the surface is fully and evenly covered.
- Leave to dry for 1 hour then tap away the excess powder to be re-used.
- If required, a second coat may be applied after 8 hours curing.
Do NOT apply any kind of top coat as this will prevent the reflective feature from working.
Tips:
- Surfaces must be completely dry before applying powder bond.
- When dust-coating, do so over a sheet of paper so the excess powder may be reclaimed and stored for future re-use.
- When coating finished leather (or shiny plastic / vinyl etc) gently rub the surface to be coated with ultra-fine sandpaper to remove the surface shine and create a key for the powder bond.
- Use an Isopropanol cleaning wipe to remove any oils, and waxes from the surface of the leather.
- Some plastic or pre-painted surfaces may be incompatible with a water-based coating. Please test for compatibility.
- A quick and easy way to test the ‘retro-reflective’ effect is to place the coated item in a dark place, then from roughly 3 – 5m away, take a flash photo on your phone. When you look at the photo you should see a bright reflection from the coated surface. The flash and the lens of the phone are ideally (closely) positioned to get the best from the retro-reflective effect. The overall effectiveness is very much dependent on light / flash intensity and distance.
Important Notes
Before adopting commercially, prospective users of our products are advised to firstly purchase a sample in order to fully evaluate the product’s suitability for purpose.
It is not possible to guarantee this kind of powder will be suitable for your application. The reflective nature of this powder when used correctly is a given, what varies is how it is applied and used etc. We therefore strongly recommend you order a sample first to check if it is suitable for your particular application.
Starglow Reflective Powder is best applied as a surface ‘powder coating’ applied over a suitable clear bonding agent. This method is particularly simple and effective for fine detailing and artistic customisations etc.
Starglow Reflective Powder may be used in clear or opaque spirit and water-based mediums, however it is important you test the compatibility of powder and medium before use. We recommend you order a sample of the powder first to allow you to do this.
Reflective powder is in fact a microscopic glass sphere which is usually suspended in a clear medium. The weight (specific gravity) of these crystals is quite high so they will naturally settle due to the effects of gravity.
Will this powder do what I want?
Almost impossible to answer this question with absolute certainty as every situation is different from the next and every customer has different expectations and needs.
The only way to know for sure is to try it and see. To this end we do have small sample packets available to buy on this web site.
Please note: Due to the simple nature of this product, it can never equal the performance of manufactured reflective materials, such as those used on safety jackets and metallised multi-layered reflective traffic signs, but its still good, and as close as you can get in a powder form! (particularly Ultra Reflective).
Reflective coatings work best when reflecting from a distance rather than close up. In much the same way as a distant road sign reflects when driving towards it at night.
Under normal light conditions the powder coating should be clear and unobtrusive, so to see the reflective effect yourself, try taking a flash-photo from around 3 or 4m away and you’ll see the reflection in the photo. The end-result will depend on light / flash strength and relative distance etc, but you get the idea.
Do not allow children to use this product unsupervised.
Reflective powders are not to be confused with commercial ‘powder-coat paints’ and are not suitable for use with high temperatures. Please contact us if you have any queries before purchasing.

UK Delivery options
Standard Delivery is a flat rate delivery charge using Royal Mail’s 1st Class Parcel Post.
Special-Delivery (small parcels) and UK Courier (larger/heavier parcels) will provide a swift next day delivery from the day of dispatch and NOT from the date of order.
Note: We do not to offer a specific ‘Next Day Delivery’ option as we cannot realistically guarantee such a service, especially in the current climate.
If you require a recorded / tracked delivery, please select either the Express Delivery or Courier Delivery option at checkout.
EU & International Orders
As of July 1st 2021 there are new EU rules on how VAT is charged for online / web orders. As a result, orders originating from any EU country below a net value of 150 Euros / £135 will now have VAT added at the prevailing rate of that country. We therefore have a £136 Minimum Order Value for Private (Non-Business) EU orders.
NOTE: Whilst we will not add VAT to your order, VAT and Customs charges will be payable once the goods have arrived in your country.
EU Businesses with a verifiable VAT and EORI number will not be affected by this change and may contact us directly if they need to place an order below £136 net, however, we do have a standard £50 net Minimum Order Value for ALL EU and International orders.
We will only ship EU and International orders at the Buyers risk. Once the goods are handed over to the courier they become the buyers property and responsibility.
For reasons of security and speed, we only ship EU and International orders via Express Courier. Delivery charges are calculated at checkout.
